The default scheduler uses the thread pool, but you may provide your own scheduler and thus control exactly how tasks are mapped to threads. We control the number of threads in the pool ( int parallelism ), the name of the threads in the pool (useful when investigating threads dump), and optionally a timeout limit. I tested it with JUnit 5 which provides a nice way to time the test methods (see TimingExtension ).
